After an initial dip, stocks were rising yet again on Wednesday afternoon as investors took heart from a new Federal Reserve report showing forth stronger than expected industrial production data, the Associated Press reported.

In addition, news about yet another merger, with eye-care company Bausch &Lomb agreeing to be acquired by affiliates of private-equity firm Warburg Pincus for about $4.5 billion, and a strong advance for bluechip Citibank with the news that influential hedge fund manager Edward Lampert had just bought 15 million shares of that company's stock, all gave investors yet another day of reason for hope and positive thinking about the US economy.

Remarking on Lampert's exuberance over Citibank, Richard Bove, banking analyst at Punk Ziegel & Co. said, "This acquisition may raise the theoretical issue of whether Citigroup should be broken up or not to a new level."

"Sellers are coming at these levels, but they just can't push this thing down. With all this takeover and buy-out activity, all this liquidity out there, there's a lot of stock coming out of the market," says Paul Mendelsohn, chief investment strategist at Windham Financial Services.

The market actually started down on Wednesday on dismal housing market news, which was not unexpected by investors, before it took an overall upturn early in the afternoon. However, investors on Wall Street continue to focus on the good news about the market to give them reason to continue on with buying up great stocks for future growth. Yet at the same time, investors are remaining cautious about "irrational exuberance". Investors know that they want to take a balanced approach, an attitude of "romantic realism", and are analyzing every new piece of financial and economic data that is published.

"I think the market is just kind of taking a little breather from having a strong move to the upside," says Ron Kiddoo, chief investment officer at Cozad Asset Management.

In the midst of the expected news of the bursting of the housing bubble came yet another piece of good news. The Federal Reserve reported increased production from US factories, mines, and utility companies, with every indicator up for April over March, beating analysts' predictions.

"This is a clear turnaround. What is not clear, though, is whether Easter seasonals or weather effects have distorted the numbers, and whether these gains can last in the face of rapidly rising core inventory and slowing retail sales," writes Ian Shepherdson, chief U.S. economist at High Frequency Economics.

Learning to make your home Wheelchair readily available. Very well the first thing to discover will be the level that you'll have.

ramps bagels by The 3 Foragers

So let me outline the plot for you. San Francisco is spending over 700,000 dollars of our hard earned taxes on a ramp. Yes, it's not a new building. It's just a ramp for that amount. I didn't realize wheelchair access had gotten so expensive. Oh wait, it hasn't. When I google wheelchair ramps this is the first sponsored result: Wheelchair Ramps 50% Off - Big Ramp Selection Starting at $29. That took me all of five seconds. Now I realize those super cheap ramps are the ugly metal ones that are not built in. (Although you could bolt them down for a few bucks extra) However this goes to show how grossly overpriced this ramp is. The labor costs were over 200,000 dollars. Over 200,000 dollars. I'm repeating it so you can try to picture that amount. San Francisco could have put around 3 needy kids through college with that.

Now I realize this ramp is in the City Hall and they want it to be historically accurate. Okay, fair enough. I'm sure you can find a history professor more than willing to take a few hours to help out. Oops, we can't even do that. We needed to pay people almost 50,000 dollars for that job. I apologize in advance if my writing becomes incoherent, the longer I type the more infuriated with San Francisco I become. Did the city ever identify other options? Did it for a moment consider how it could lower costs? I do not believe so. Why is that? It's not their money.

If local government officials had to pay out of their own pocket for this then they would not be doing this ridiculous ramp. In these tough economic times where our government is broke, why not have a little fiscal responsibility? Buy a temporary ramp for one hundred dollars and focus on things that matter instead. With 700,000 dollars we could help people who truly need it. The part that really gets me is that city officials have claimed they are glad it won't cost over a million dollars like they originally thought. I am ashamed these people were elected.

What exactly is the Stock Market? It's a good prepared program in which any person as well as every person can easily often buy or perhaps advertise their futures or perhaps explains to you

stock market by 401(K) 2012

On the morning of 8/9/11 Sonoma County real estate investor Steve asked his me, his Realtor to negotiate a longer escrow because of the large drop in the stock market the previous day. Stock market declines have a strong effect on investors like Steve who will likely still purchase the property he is pursuing, but he is literally banking on a short term market rebound so that the losses he realizes have an opportunity to be negated or at least lessened when transferring the stock assets to a real estate asset.

Drops in the stock market don't just delay real estate escrows as they will likely do in Steve's case. They have the ability to derail sales altogether. Buyers suddenly have less money at their disposal and they may need to buy a less expensive home or they may get into a position where they can't or won't want to purchase at all. They will simply wait until they have more money when the market rebounds.

Stock market gains are important to real estate because often buyers are counting on liquidating stocks in order to purchase homes. I purchased my first condo in 2000 in part by buying 100 shares of (PCL) at the IPO price of 16. After the requisite holding period of 30 days I sold in the mid $150's and that became a significant portion of my down payment. Short term trading strategies don't necessarily help the market, but back in the day when the internet economy was in its infancy and booming people like me were taking what they could get and riding an upwelling in the market.

The stock markets and the world economies need to perform. It would be great if someone like Al Gore would come along and discover an internet or something. Don't hold your breathe but our society is evolving. Technology is driving change and new opportunities. Perhaps the paradigm shift to a greener economy will not only help the planet but all of our pocketbooks and portfolios as well?

In general when the stock markets are up people have more money to invest in other things like real estate. Conversely as markets decline people not only feel less than wealthy, but they are and they can only do less. The economy as a whole suffers, which is why the stock market must and will perform. We've all got too much riding on it, even those of us who don't own stocks.

It is apparent to anyone watching the stock market, the falling AIG stock price, the potential for the Lehman Barclays deal, and a possibly disastrous AIG bankruptcy, that consumers are afraid to lose what is left of their nest eggs.

In the wake of a tumbling Dow Jones, hushed whispers of a stock market crash and frantic activity at the New York Stock Exchange, Wall Street mavens are calling for the Fed to cut interest rates in a last ditch effort to overcome Bank of America stock prices -- and Merrill Lynch as well as Morgan Stanley stock price doubts -- with a shot in the economic arm.

Stock Market Analysis

Stock market analysts claim to know what ails a floundering Wall Street: the aftermath of the mortgage crisis. USA Today reports that the seemingly unprecedented drop in the stock market is due to the precarious fiscal empires of Lehman Bros, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Countrywide, and even Merrill Lynch finally toppling.

As the DOW took a 504 point nosedive, other companies are being sucked down the spiral as well. The Street pulls no punches as it details the downgrading of insurer AIG stock prices. Once known as AIG Valic, AIG stock prices join Con Edison, Eli Lilly, and even PG&E stocks; investors are eyeing the Dow Jones and worry about another stock market crash.

The British Are Coming, the British Are Coming!

The news is not all bad, however, since across the pond there are some signs that foreign investors are taking a closer look at America's floundering Wall Street. According to the Associated Press, London's Barclays PLC is making overtures to buy some of the assets Chapter 11 bound Lehman Brothers has for sale. Whether or not advantageous for Lehman, Barclays' interest might inject some much needed capital into the transaction.

As rumors of an AIG bankruptcy send not only its stock prices but also associated industry stocks -- such as the Merrill Lynch stock price and also Morgan Stanley stock price - onto a topsy turvy course, it bears remembering that the much feared New York Stock Exchange Black Monday is not a new occurrence.

A Brief History of Time

As a matter of fact, even recent history shows a cyclical appearance of Black Monday responses to late Friday company press releases and weekend world news. For example, the Black Monday Wall Street jitters that rocked the stock market yesterday occurred in the wake of Lehman Brothers' Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and also the news that Bank of America had acquired Merrill Lynch.

Take for another example January 21st, 2008. Even as there was no trading on Wall Street itself due to the federal Martin Luther King, Junior holiday observance, stock market movers and shakers were not idle and watched with apprehension the tumbles of India's and also Hong Kong's stock indices.

KPTM Fox 42 quotes the Associated Press account that points to the combination of international fiscal shenanigans and a serious doubt over the Bush Administration's economic stimulus package that led to an investor led run on Wall Street on the next trading day. A scant day later, BBC News reported of a stock market recovery in the wake of an interest rate cut by the Federal Reserve.

The BBC pointed out that even spiraling commodities markets quickly recovered and once again picked up appreciably.

2008 a 1987 in Disguise?

21 years prior to this occurrence, there was another Black Monday that sent the stock market reeling. During the onset of the holiday season on October 19th, 1987, the Dow Jones Industrial Average went down by more than 22%. The Motley Fool put together a stellar account of the year 1987 and a snapshot of the stock market which, at that time, appeared to be plagued by fraud, and empty promises.

Sent over the edge by the 10-19 shelling of the Iranian oil platform located in the Persian Gulf, the Motley Fool concludes that it was not a single event, but instead a series of seemingly only tangentially related incidents that - much akin a slow fuse to a powder keg - finally set off the explosion.

Back to the future, today is not really that different from 21 years ago. A series of unfortunate events, speculation driven transactions, poor planning on the parts of consumers, corporate greed, and a failure to put down the governmental foot a lot sooner on haphazard corporate accountability have brought America's chickens home to roost (maybe this is what Jeremiah Wright was talking about?).

The worst thing you could do right now is place all of your nest eggs into one basket, while the best thing to do is to diversify your investment portfolio, keep a good chunk of cash in an FDIC insured high interest savings account, and then hold on for the ride. If your blood pressure permits, get in on the action and speculate, but you stand a good chance of losing your shirt.

Chpt4-SecC: What Should I Look For In Company Stock? by palynp

Are you tired of working very hard everyday, only to realize that you don't really have any savings for your future?

Just want to share with you the beautiful message from Bo Sanchez (dated May 26, 2011),

I believe that if we want success in stock investing,We need a little bit of guidance of mentor like Bo Sanchez and a lot of discipline to follow their guidelines....below is true story, only names are invented....I hope it will help you to gain more knowledge in stock investing.....Enjoy reading and happy investing!

Pamella, Penelope, and Petunia are sisters.
The three of them are very responsible young women. They work in regular jobs and know how to save their money.

After many years of savings, each of them had P100,000.

It was their mother who taught them to save a part of their income each month. Sadly, her instruction ended there. She never told them where to put their savings.

Pamella hides her P100,000 in under her bed.

Result? Her money never grows at all.

Penelope thinks she was wiser than her sister Pamella. Because she places her money in a bank. Result? Her money grew by 1% a year. (That's the normal interest rate of savings accounts.)

Her P100,000'"after one year'"grew to P1000.

Here's the truth: Penelope isn't really that much wiser than Pamella. I pity the Pamellas of the world. They're hard working. They're disciplined. They save each month. But they lack financial knowledge. (Do you know of people like Pamella? Are you like Pamella?)

Let me tell you about Petunia, the third sister.

Last year, Petunia became a member of my TrulyRichClub. Last year, following my guidance, she started investing in the Stock Market.
She read in my Stocks Update Report (which I send twice a month to my TrulyRichClub Members) what Stocks to buy. Late last year, I instructed my Members to buy the following Stocks: Ayala Land, Energy Development Corporation, DMCI, Nickel Asia, Metrobank, and for those with extra money, Lepanto.

Penelope divided her P100,000 into these companies.

Result after one year?

Her money in Ayala Land grew by 49%.
Her money in Energy Development Corporation grew by 33% since we recommended it last March 2010.
Her money in DMCI (DMC) grew by 64% since we recommended it last Sept 2010.
Her money in Nickel Asia grew by 49% since we recommended it last Oct 2010.
And her money in Lepanto grew by 157% since we recommended it last Dec 2010.
Result? Her money grew over 50% to 60% in less than a year! That growth is absolutely phenomenal.

Because even at only 20% growth a year, Petunia would have P4 Million in 20 years. That's if she doesn't add money each month.

But that's not our method. I always tell our Members to add their small investments each month. Even if Petunia adds only P2000 per month, at the end of 20 years, she'll have P11 Million.

Question: Do you want to be Pamella, or Penelope, or Petunia?

Petunia is very happy with her earnings.

She's also happy that because of the TrulyRichClub, she's not going into the Stock Market blind. (As you can guess by now, her real name isn't Petunia, nor does she have two sisters named Pamella and Penelope. But their story is absolutely true, reflecting the stories of thousands of people I know.)

By the way, my letter today isn't for everyone.
Please disregard if this isn't your concern.
I don't expect everyone to join my TrulyRichClub.
If this isn't for you, I apologize for bothering you with this letter.
Because today,I'm specifically writing to people who want to grow their financial life'"and who want my guidance in investing in the Stock Market.
Are you tired of being stuck in a rut in your finances?
Are you tired of your lingering debts?
Are you tired of feeling the pain of wanting to help people you love, but can't, because you don't have the resources?
Are you tired of your big fears and uncertainty?
Are you tired of working very hard everyday, only to realize that you don't really have any savings for your future?

Just in case you're that person, let me help you.

How Important May be the Trading and investing Technique Throughout Purchase?

stock trading by veggy

The Internet along with the computer has brought online stock trading available to anyone with an Internet connection and some money to invest. Having easy access to a trading account has a disadvantage. If you are not careful in selecting your stocks, you could easily lose all of your money. How to pick winning stocks will be addressed in a different article. We will concentrate here on how to open an online stock trading account.

Online stockbrokers come in two forms. The first type is what is called a discount broker. The second type is called the deep discount broker. It should be obvious that the main difference between these two types of online stockbrokers is the commissions they charge. Discount stockbrokers have commissions that range between $7 and $12 per trade. The deep discounted broker has a commission rate as low as one dollar per trade.

Regardless of which type of stockbroker you choose, you will not be dealing with a person. All stock transactions and communication will be done over the Internet. That is how they can charge such a small commission. If you need to talk to a live person, there is often a charge for that. Be aware of the fees and policy before you sign up.

It is important to know if the stockbroker you choose has real time access to stock trading prices. Sometimes there will be a fee for real-time access. Make sure the website clearly states that they offer real-time quotes. Because the commission rates on deep discounted broker's is so low, they often charge extra for real-time price quotes. If the broker you are considering does not offer these real-time quotes, look elsewhere. Unless you are a long term trader you need up to the minute quotes. The time lag between the actual quoted price and delayed price quote could end up costing you more than the commission would have otherwise been. Therefore, be prepared to pay a higher commission for a more accurate, real-time stock quote.

Once you have done your research and have chosen a broker, you will then need to complete the online application form. In most cases you can fill out the form online and submit it. Be prepared however to print out the application and send the hard copy to the broker as confirmation before you will be allowed to trade online.

Competition is very strong in this field. Because of that, you will probably not have to pay any additional fees. Many times the broker will offer incentives for you joining and trading at their site. The incentive is often a certain number of trades for free for the first month. There may be an inactivity fee, however. That means if you have not had a trade in a certain number of months, they would charge you an inactivity fee. Read the documentation closely so that you are aware of this charge. If your account is an IRA, the inactive fee does not apply.

Once your application is completed and sent to the broker, you will be instructed as to how to deposit your money with them. They may accept a credit card as deposit. If not you will have to make a physical payment into their bank. This can either be done with a check or a wire transfer. Once your account is funded, you are ready to start trading.

Basic Safety Recommendations For Repairing Home Appliances

handicapped ramp by intheburg

Access ramps don't just help those in wheelchairs and power chairs; they also help mothers with strollers and people using rolling walkers too. Before you begin construction, is recommended you check with your local building department on this issue for your state's accessibility regulations. It is also recommend that you contact the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on the Americans With Disabilities Act (1-800-514-0301) to obtain a copy of the ADA Handbook or ask for Federal Register, Part III (28 CFR, Part 36, Vol. 56, No. 144, Order No. 1513-91) which gives ramp design specifications and dimensions.

Single-family residences have no ramp width dimensional requirements but a minimum of 36" clear is recommended. Level landings are needed at both the top and the bottom of the ramp. In addition, a 60" long landing is needed after every 30" elevation change. Landings need to be at least the same width as the ramp. If the ramp changes direction at a landing, the minimum landing size is 60" x 60". Guardrails need to be mounted along both sides of the ramp, and handrails are to be mounted to the inside. The top of the handrail must be between 34" and 38" off the ramp surface. Consider installing a second handrail about 20" off the ramp surface. A handrail needs a clear space of 1 1/2" from it and the surface to which it is mounted. Use 2" x 6" decking boards and install the short way to provide better traction for wheelchair tires, and install a non-slip surface. The maximum slope of a ramp in new construction is 1:12, but a slope of 1:16 or 1:20 may be easier for a wheelchair user to navigate. A slope of 1:12 means that for every 12" length of ramp, the ramp will rise 1".

Door hardware should have a shape that is easy to grasp with one hand and does not require tight grasping and pinching or twisting of the wrist to operate. Use a U-shaped, lever-operated, or push-type handle. The operating hardware shall be exposed and usable from both sides on a slider when the door is fully open, and mount the hardware no higher than 48" above the finished floor. When installing a handrail, there should be a clear space of 1 1/2" between the wall and the handrail. The diameter or width of the gripping surface should be between 1 1/4" and 1 1/2". If you prefer to design the handrail so it is located in a recessed area, the recess should be a maximum of 3" deep with 1 1/2" between the handrail and the adjacent wall. The recess should extend 18" above the handrail.

These are just a few tips that may be useful to you if you plan on building a wheelchair access ramp for your home. The author of this article is no expert and does not claim to be. However, enough research has been done about the handicap and what can be done to allow them easy access to more places and this author would like to reach out and help anyone who wants it.
